Where it all began…
I am on a journey. One I plan to be traveling on for the rest of my life. Part of the fun of coaching time management and mindset for business owners is that I am forever learning and forever developing my knowledge and my skills. But go back just a year and mine was a very different situation. I had no clear direction of where I was going or how I was going to get there. I just knew three things:
I wanted to make the most of my remaining time on this earth
I wanted to use my interest in psychology to help others
I wanted to build a business
Where I was
A few years before, I had sadly lost my husband. The loss of a loved one is a massive shock, but one positive outcome of this troubled time, was the sudden realisation that I should not take life for granted. And that I should make the most of my remaining time. But how to do this?
And then many years ago I had taken a degree in psychology but never done anything with it. I had an ongoing interest in what makes people tick and a real interest in entrepreneurship and what creates a success story. But how could I harness this interest to build a business?
And then I knew I wanted to start up a business that I could remain passionate about, where I could continue to learn and develop and where I could help others to achieve their goals. But how might this look? What might this be?
A year ago I had no clear goals. If someone had asked me “Where do you want to be a year from now?” or five years from now, or even when I retire (do I even want to retire?) I would not have been able to answer. Other than a generic answer of wanting to be traveling and having adventures. I had no idea how I was going to get there. And no clear idea of what I actually wanted. I did some research and came across business coaching, something I knew very little about at the time. But what appealed to me about coaching was how it put the client in the driver’s seat. And how it was so forward-thinking and practical. I had run businesses of my own over the years and found it rewarding but also very demanding. Running your own business can be isolating, you are the one making all the decisions and there is very little support. I wanted to use my experiences and my skills to help other business owners find their way through the fog and enjoy their own journey.
And Now
Now, after almost a year of coaching, I have very clear goals. I know exactly what my primary areas of interest are. I know where I want to put all my effort. And I know where I want to end up. Time Management skills are helping me ensure that I do not waste my time and I concentrate on those activities that are bringing me slowly closer to my goals. I find I concentrate much more easily, I procrastinate far less and I feel much more in control of my day. I still have lots to learn but my coaching journey has been thoroughly rewarding.
